Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56
CONCLUSION:: Short-term fetoscopic tracheal balloon occlusion may result in rapid normalization of fetal lung volume and blood flow in fetuses with life-threatening pulmonary hypoplasia from preterm premature rupture of membranes before 22 weeks of gestation. PMID: 19155927 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

CONCLUSION:: Local intramyometrial infiltration of low-dose vasopressin may cause lethal cardiopulmonary complications. PMID: 19155928 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Posterior axilla sling traction: a technique for intractable shoulder dystocia.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56

Uterine arteriovenous fistula as a long-term complication of hysterectomy: presentation and management.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56
CONCLUSION:: A palpable, pulsatile pelvic mass in a patient with a history of hysterectomy should prompt referral for radiographic evaluation of a possible pelvic arteriovenous fistula. Selective arterial embolization may be considered an option for treatment of this entity. PMID: 19155930 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Stercoral perforation of the colon with favorable pregnancy outcome.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56

Spontaneous severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in successive pregnancies with successful outcomes.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56
CONCLUSION:: The case presented involves a patient with spontaneous severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in two successive pregnancies. The patient was managed aggressively with paracentesis and albumin replacement resulting in two successful pregnancies. PMID: 19155932 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Complete eversion of the urinary bladder: presentation, review, and algorithm for management.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:56
CONCLUSION:: Multiparous postmenopausal women appear to be at highest risk for complete bladder eversion. External transurethral reduction is sometimes successful, but most cases require laparotomy. PMID: 19155933 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Use of the genetic sonogram in the united states in 2001 and 2007.

Sat, 10/25/2008 - 04:51
CONCLUSIONS: Practitioners in the United States are using an increasing number of second-trimester sonographic markers to help identify aneuploid fetuses. The growing acceptance of sonography to screen for fetal aneuploidy and the recommendation by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for universal screening suggest that more resources may be necessary to meet the growing demand for second-trimester sonograms. Previous research shows that around 30 percent of women who become pregnant are overweight. (Source: Nutrition/Agriculture News From Medical News Today)

Novel therapeutic strategy for uterine endometrial cancers

Thu, 10/23/2008 - 01:28
Abstract  In general, tumors induce angiogenic factors specific to them, which leads to angiogenesis with tumor progression. However, angiogenesis in uterine endometrial cancers is complicated because the hormone dependency in their growth also modifies the angiogenic potential. Therefore, angiogenic potential in uterine endometrial cancers must be thoroughly analyzed. The upstream of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene conserves estrogen-responsive elements. Progesterone primed with estrogen induces thymidine phosphorylase (TP) in the uterine endometrium. Sex steroid-dependent VEGF and TP are highly expressed in early-stage and well-differentiated uterine endometrial cancers, and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is highly expressed in advanced and poorly...

Chemotherapy consisting of paclitaxel and carboplatin benefits a patient with malignant mixed müllerian tumor of the fallopian tube

Thu, 10/23/2008 - 01:28
Abstract  Malignant mixed müllerian tumors (MMMT) of the fallopian tube are extremely rare, and optimal therapy for them is unknown. A 71-year-old woman presented to us with symptoms of abdominal distension and nausea. A right salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. Pathological examination determined International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IIIc MMMT of the right fallopian tube. Of note, multiple tumoral nodules were attached to the sigmoid colon. The patient received three courses of chemotherapy, consisting of 175 mg/m2 paclitaxel and AUC = 5 carboplatin (TC therapy), administered at 3-week intervals. A second, debulking, surgery was then performed, consisting of total abdominal hysterectomy, left salpingo-oophorectomy, and pelvic and paraaortic ly...
